VoIP Hurricane Prep Net Report – Saturday April 5th 2014
The following stations checked into the VoIP Skywarn Hurricane Prep Net for Apr. 5, 2014. Stations listed may not necessarily be in the order that they checked into the net. Callsign data is taken from the HamData Dot Com and QRZ websites.
Note that just connecting to the Weather Talk Conference Server or an IRLP node (either directly or through a repeater) does NOT qualify as a checkin to the net.
You must be acknowledged by Net Control either via voice, or textbox, to get on the log. If you are not acknowledged, your voice or textbox checkin did NOT get through, and you will have to recheck.
Note that all hyperlinks are spelled out in the message, due to display issues with Facebook.

A few other notes:
1) The net is meeting on the first Saturday of the month ONLY through May, at 8pm Eastern, 7pm Central, 6pm Mountain, and 5pm Pacific Time. Weekly nets will resume in June, 2014, at the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Our next net is Saturday, May 3, 2014…and it will also have a training presentation. That net will cover the Amateur Radio Station, WX4NHC, at the National Hurricane Center in Miami…and a review of the Amateur Radio Workshop at the National Hurricane Conference in Orlando later this month. Also, on the May 3, 2014 Net, we should know the date of the 2014 WX4NHC Station test…likely to be on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Details will be in the Yahoo Groups, Facebook, and on the website.
The PDF file of tonights Net Training Presentation can be downloaded at http colon slash slash www dot voipwx dot net — look for the link on the April, 2014 Training Net Presentation. It requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. A file for the recording of the April, 2014 Training Net Presentation will be posted as soon as possible.
2) Several items for stations to note:
a) Stations are not permitted to connect with conference mode enabled. If they do so, the node will immediately disconnect them.
b) During the nets with Training Presentations, comments will be taken from VoIP WX Net Management Only. All other checkins, voice and textbox will be callsign ONLY. This is done in the interest of time for the training presentation…although net particpants may ask questions or make comments after the training presentation.
c) It is appreciated if stations use ITU Phoenetics when checking into the net, so Net Control can copy their callsigns correctly. Again, if you don’t get copied, you won’t get logged.
3) An Online Skywarn Spotter Training Course is available if your area National Weather Service (NWS) Office is not currently offering Skywarn Storm Spotter Training classes. The course takes approximately 2 hours to complete, and helpful links are on this page. This course link is accepted by most NWS Offices, in lieu of attending an “in person” class. Type in “Online Storm Spotter Training Course” in your favorite search engine, and look for the words MetEd in the link, then click on it for more information. With Tornado Season now in progress across portions of the country, now is an excellent time to become a Skywarn Spotter, or to review the course material.
4) More information on the group is at the website at www dot voipwx dot net — on Facebook at www dot facebook dot com slash voipwxnet — and find us on Twitter at voipwxnet
