Tropical Depression (TD) 6 Becomes Tropical Storm Fernand/Atlantic Tropical Update 800 PM EDT Sunday 8/25/13

Hello to all..

TD 6 has become Tropical Storm Fernand with maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH. Fernand is expected to continue to strengthen up until landfall in the state of Veracruz Mexico. The latest National Hurricane Center (NHC) Advisory states that Fernand should reach Maximum Sustained winds of 60 MPH prior to landfall. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will continue to monitor the progress of Fernand as he makes landfall in Mexico.

Later this week, the tropics may become more active as stated in the last update. A tropical wave is expected to emerge off Africa later tonight or Monday and move westward over the tropical Atlantic with some development possible later this week. This system now has a 30% chance for development in the greater than 48 hour to 5-day period which is an increase of 10% since the last update and now means a medium chance for development. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will continue to monitor the progress of this Tropical Wave.
