Reminder and Power Point Presentation Link: VoIP Hurricane Prep Net – March 2014 Training Topic – February 2014 Winter Storm Impacts over the Eastern US – A Repeat of January 2014 – Saturday March 1st, 2014 – 8 PM ET/0000UTC

Hello to all..

Once again, for this Saturday evening’s VoIP Hurricane Prep Net, we will have a training topic regarding the recent Winter Storms of February 2014 that have affected the Eastern United States and how it was a repeat of the pattern that was seen in January 2014. We will look at a few winter storms that impacted the Northeast US/New England region in mid-February and then discuss the mid-February 2/11-2/13 winter storm that affected much of the US Eastern Seaboard. We will also touch on the safety tips for such winter storms as mentioned in last month’s net as the northern half of the US will remain in a cold winter weather pattern for the next couple of weeks though it looks to be potentially a less stormy pattern.

We encourage folks to participate in this month’s VoIP Hurricane Prep Net and listen and view the training that will be presented. In the interest of time, net management team members will give brief comments and then we will be checking in Amateurs with no comments and move right into the training presentation as we used to do in the past when having such training topics and as we did for the February 2014 net. There will be an opportunity for Amateurs to ask questions at the end of the training presentation.

The Power Point presentation is now available and can be seen at the following link:
http://www.voipwx.net/files/VoIP_Hurricane_Net_Presentation_for_March_2014.pdf

For those that cannot make the net, the power point presentation and a recording of the net will be available and archived on the voipwx.net web site.

Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays to All from the VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team!

Hello to all..

On behalf of the VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays to all. Thanks to all of you for your support of the VoIP Hurricane Net during 2013.

The 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season was one of the quietest seasons in the history of the VoIP Hurricane Net. There were no formal net activations for any tropical systems this year. The first season like that in recent memory and a far cry from the past few seasons which had multiple significant VoIP Hurricane Net activations over the course of the year. As occurs yearly, we did support WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center with the WX4NHC Communications Test at the start of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As our main client, we appreciate WX4NHC’s support of our net and thank WX4NHC Coordinators, Julio Ripoll-WD4R and John McHugh-K4AG for their support. They have been an incredible partner with the VoIP Hurricane Net dating back to the net’s inception in the 2003-2004 timeframe.

We also had another successful SKYWARN Recognition Day event on the home of the VoIP Hurricane Net, Echolink conference: *WX-TALK* Node: 7203/IRLP 9219. Many NWS offices rotated on the system making contacts with Amateur Radio Operators and SKYWARN Spotters from around the country thanking them for their support as well as making contact with different NWS offices around the country.
