Tropical Depression #1 is strengthening and is now Tropical Storm Arthur with maximum sustained winds of 40 MPH. Arthur is located 80 miles east-southeast of Cape Canaveral, Florida and about 100 miles North-Northwest of Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the east coast of Florida from Fort Pierce through Flagler Beach, Florida. Arthur is expected to continue to strengthen and is now forecasted to reach category-1 Hurricane Status. The track remains fairly uncertain but some level of impact to the Southeast US coast is possible. As we get into the extended forecast, some level of impact could occur across the mid-atlantic United States into Southern New England depending on the track of Arthur with the potential of some level of heavy rainfall as Arthur interacts with a cold front.

Hello to all..

Tropical Depression (TD) 1 has formed in the Atlantic. TD 1 has formed in the Atlantic about 105 miles east-southeast of Cape Canaveral Florida. The proximity of TD 1 near the coast of Florida has prompted the issuance of a Tropical Storm Watch from Fort Pierce Florida to just south of Flagler Beach Florida. TD 1 is expected to gradually strengthen into a tropical storm. If this happens as expected, TD 1 would be named Arthur.

The track of TD 1 is a bit uncertain. It will slow down and gradually turn west, northwest and northward over the next couple of days and then begin to turn northeast and accelerate. At this time, TD 1 is expected to be just below hurricane strength at its peak intensity in 72 hours. How close this system comes to the US East Coast and its interaction with a front approaching the US east coast leads to uncertainty on impacts to the US east coast. Some computer weather models indicate the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding in the US Mid Atlantic and possibly the Northeast US as we get closer to the end of this week but its unclear on which areas would be impacted the most.

Data from recon aircraft indicates that associated thunderstorm activity is just below the organizational threshold required to initiate tropical cyclone advisories but only a slight increase in organization and persistence of thunderstorm activity would initiate advisories. If advisories are initiated, a tropical storm watch could be issued for portions of the central and northern Atlantic coast of Florida. For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Special outlook issued to update discussion of the area of low
pressure east of Florida.

Updated:  An Air Force Reserve unit reconnaissance aircraft is
investigating the area of low pressure centered about 110 miles east
of Melbourne, Florida.  While the low is well defined, the
associated thunderstorm activity is just below the organizational
threshold required to initiate tropical cyclone advisories.
Environmental conditions continue to be favorable for development,
and only a slight increase in the organization and persistence of
the thunderstorm activity would result in the formation of a
tropical depression.

Data from the reconnaissance aircraft indicate that peak sustained
winds with the low are about 30-35 mph.  The low is moving
southwestward at around 5 mph, but is expected to turn westward
tonight and northward by Wednesday when it will be near the east
coast of Florida. If this system becomes a tropical cyclone, a
tropical storm watch could be required for portions of the central

The first tropical depression of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season may be forming soon. An Air Force Reconnaissance aircraft is enroute to investigate a low pressure area located about 125 miles east of Melbourne Florida. This low has gotten more organized today with environmental conditions becoming more conducive for development. If this system becomes a tropical cyclone, a Tropical Storm Watch could be required for portions of the central and northern Atlantic Coast of Florida. This system could impact portions of the Southeast United States over the next couple of days as its current southwest movement turns to a more northerly and northeast motion over the next few days. Hello to all..

The *WX_TALK* Echolink conference node 7203/IRLP 9219 Raleigh Reflector system is back in service. The Raleigh Reflector system was brought back online Thursday Evening and VoIP Technical Coordinator, Tony Langdon-VK3JED brought the *WX_TALK* Echolink conference node: 7203 back online on the reflector system. Our VoIP Hurricane Net will be held on the *WX_TALK* Echolink conference node: 7203/IRLP 9219 system this Saturday Evening at 800 PM EDT/700 PM CDT and all nets going forward.

We wish to thank VE7LTD-Dave Cameron, IRLP inventor, the IRLP Raleigh Reflector Group, Jack Thorpe-WA0ERX and Danny Musten-KD4RAA and our VoIP Hurricane Technical Coordinator, Tony Langdon-VK3JED for their work in bringing the system backup with just a 2 week outage. We received many years of continuous service from the server that the system was on and we hope to receive many years of continuous service on the new setup. We also wish to thank the owners of IRLP Reflector 9508/Echolink Conference *VKEMCOMM* Node: 270177 for the use of their system for the WX4NHC Communications Test and as a listen-only system for VoIP Hurricane Net activations.
