VoIP Hurricane Net Secured on Monday 7/8/24 at 1100 AM EDT As Beryl Weakened to a Tropical Storm

Hello to all…

The VoIP Hurricane Net secured on Monday 7/8/24 at 1100 AM EDT as Beryl weakened to a tropical storm at that time. The VoIP Hurricane Net fielded dozens of reports from online weather stations reporting wind gusts between 50-98 MPH with winds above 74 MPH being hurricane force wind gust criteria. Sustained winds were high end tropical storm force to Category-1 hurricane force winds.

We wish to extend a special thank you to the South Coast Reflector and Amateur Radio Operator N6KNE (hopefully, we got that call-sign correct) for allowing a connection into our net where close to 10 Amateur Radio Operators checked in and provided storm reports that were sent to WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center. We would love to see more of this cooperation in the future with other parts of coastal areas threatened by hurricanes.

The VoIP Hurricane Net also relayed reports of storm damage via social media and public safety radio feeds during the 9 hour net activation from 2-11 AM EDT. Special thanks to K2DCD-Dennis and KC5FM-Lloyd on the net management team for providing support in gathering stations from the affected area and to AE4WX-Mark Snyder for his net control support this morning. A total of 56 reports were sent in by the net and some of the report submissions had multiple reports within the same report. You can see all the reports in the VoIP Hurricane Net Report Viewer at the following link:

https://www.voipwx.net/qilan/nhcwx/list_VOIP_records1?auth=OK

The Atlantic, Eastern Pacific and Central Pacific basins do not have any tropical cyclone development expected over the next week. This will give our team an opportunity to rest, however, a very active season is expected so now is the time for residents along the various ocean basis to prepare their hurricane plans in case they need to be executed upon as we get into a more active portion of the season particularly in August and September. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

VoIP Hurricane Net Secured on Wednesday 7/3/24 – 8 PM EDT for Major Hurricane Beryl & Impacts in Jamaica

Hello to all…

The VoIP Hurricane Net secured operations on Wednesday 7/3/24 at 8 PM EDT for Major Hurricane Beryl and its impacts to Jamaica. The impacts to Jamaica were significant but not as catastrophic as Grenada, CarriaCou, Union Island and the Grenadines. Beryl downed trees, power lines, caused significant rain related flooding as well as coastal storm surge flooding. Notably, the roof was torn off of the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston Jamaica. In addition, 6Y5WW, William reported in from the Spanish Town, Jamaica EOC and 6Y5RW-Andrew also submitted reports into the net. A total of 37 reports were submitted between on-air Amateur Radio Operators, social media and online weather stations. Special thanks to Net Controls AE4WX-Mark, KK7AHR-George and to net management team members KC5FM-Lloyd and K2DCD-Dennis for their support of this net activation. A complete listing of reports can be seen on the VoIP Hurricane Net Report Viewer at the following link:

https://www.voipwx.net/qilan/nhcwx/list_VOIP_records1?auth=OK

The core of Beryl and the hurricane force conditions associated with Beryl should stay south of the coast of the Cayman Islands but tropical storm force conditions with gusts to hurricane force will be possible there overnight into Thursday Morning. No formal net is planned for Thursday for the Cayman Islands but the system will be monitored for any traffic especially for Thursday Morning.

The VoIP Hurricane Net will be active again Friday Morning for Beryl and impacts to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and Belize. The final VoIP Hurricane Net activation for Beryl will likely be Sunday into Monday Morning for potential landfall as a hurricane in Northeast Mexico/Southeast Texas. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will closely monitor the progress of Beryl. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

VoIP Hurricane Net Activation Secured on Monday 7/1/24 at 500 PM EDT

Hello to all…

The VoIP Hurricane Net activation was secured at 500 PM EDT Monday 7/1/24. Major Hurricane Beryl intensified into an intense Category-4 Hurricane as it swept through the Grenadines, Grenada and Petit Martinique with impacts also into St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago. Some of the net reports were utilized in the 11 AM Monday 7/1/24 NHC Advisory. They included structural damage reports to buildings with roofs blown off, trees/wires/poles down, storm surge and heavy rainfall related flooding. A complete list of reports captured from Amateur Radio Operators, online weather stations and social media can be seen at the following link:

https://www.voipwx.net/qilan/nhcwx/list_VOIP_records1?auth=OK

Beryl may pass far enough south of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands where the next net activation may not be until the end of the week for the Yucatan Peninsula but this will bear close monitoring. Beryl is expected to weaken some over the Caribbean Sea but is expected to remain a hurricane throughout its track to the Yucatan Peninsula coast. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management will continue to closely monitor the progress of Beryl. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!
