Hello to all..

Tropical Depression (TD)5 has become Tropical Storm Ernesto, the fifth tropical system of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season, about 295 miles East of the Windward Islands with Maximum Sustained Winds of 50 MPH and a minimum central pressure of 1006 Millibars or 29.71 Inches. Ernesto could strengthen slightly as it passes through the Windward Islands but is expected to stay below hurricane strength as it passes through the Windward islands. Ernesto may reach hurricane strength in 4 to 5 days over the Caribbean Sea. At this time, VoIP Hurricane Net activation is not expected over the next few days but we will continue to monitor the progress of Ernesto.

Hello to all..

Tropical Depression 5 has formed in the Eastern Atlantic, about 810 miles east of the Windward Islands with Maximum Sustained Winds of 35 MPH and a minimum central pressure of 1008 Millibars or 29.77 Inches. TD 5 is expected to strengthen to a tropical storm later tonight or Thursday. If TD 5 strengthens as expected, it will be named Ernesto. This system is expected to impact the Southern Windward Islands as a tropical storm and could become a hurricane towards the end of the 5 day period.

The ARRL will host a webinar from 8-9:30 PM EDT Tuesday, July 17 (0000-0130 UTC Wednesday, July 18) to present information about the 2012 hurricane season and the Amateur Radio response. The program will offer presentations from representatives from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and WX4NHC (the Amateur Radio station at the NHC), the VoIP Hurricane Net, the Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) and the ARRL. Webinar registration is open to all, but this informative web session will be of particular interest to those amateurs in hurricane-prone areas. If you are interested in emergency communications and hurricane preparedness and response, you are invited to attend this online presentation.

Chris is the first hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane Chris was last located 625 southeast of Cape Race Newfoundland and has a present movement northeast at 20 MPH. Chris has maximum sustained winds near 75 MPH and is a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. Hurricane Chris is expected to take a northern turn later today followed by a turn toward the northwest and west with a decrease in forward speed on Friday. Weakening over the next 48 hours is expected and Chris is expected to become a Post-Tropical Cyclone on Friday. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles and Tropical force winds extend outward up to 105 miles. The last estimated minimum central pressure was 987 millibars or 29.15 inches. Hurricane Chris is not a threat to land is not expected to be during the duration of the storm.

The VoIP Hurricane / Skywarn Net management will continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Chris and will update as needed. No activation of the net is expected at this time. Good evening everyone,

The National Hurricane Center is issuing public advisories on TS Chris in the Atlantic Ocean. At this time there is no threat to land. TS Chris was last located about 560 miles south southwest of Cape Race Newfoundland. Chris currently has sustained winds near 45 MPH and a present movement East or 90 degrees at 8 MPH. TS Chris has a minimum central pressure of 1005 MB or 29.68 inches. The satellite imagery indicated that the non-tropical low pressure area located southeast of the canadian Maritimes had acquired tropical characteristics. Tropical storm force winds are extending out up to 70 miles from the center. At this time there also no tropical storm watches or warnings in place and the NHC is not expecting any in the next 24 hours.

Tropical Depression Beryl is strengthening a little as it moves east-northeast
near the South Carolina coast on this Wednesday morning. The forecast
track moves the center of the system off of the South Carolina coast
later today, and along or just off of the North Carolina coast through
this evening. Beryl could regain tropical storm-strength later today.

Isolated wind gusts of tropical storm-force are possible along the coastline of South and North Carolina today, along with dangerous surf conditions and rip currents.

Rainfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts of 8
inches, are expected in northeastern South Carolina and eastern North
Carolina.

As of 11:00 AM EDT, the National Hurricane Center has downgraded Beryl to a tropical depression, but notes that while all coastal watches and warnings have been dropped, hazards remain. Beryl is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 4 to 8 inches — with isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches — from northern Florida through southeastern North Carolina. Wind gusts approaching 50 mph are also possible, particularly within rainbands. Meanwhile, dangerous surf conditions, including rip currents, are expected to continue along the coast from northeastern Florida to North Carolina today. Reconnaisance Aircraft and Doppler Radar data show Beryl is near hurricane strength. Beryl will make landfall late tonight with some of the strongest winds occurring at and just after landfall. The latest 8 PM advisory has been read over the *WX-TALK* Echolink conference node: 7203/IRLP 9219 reflector system. The VoIP Hurricane Net will be monitoring Beryl throughout the evening into early Monday Morning for any reports meeting the SKYWARN/VoIP Hurricane Net Reporting criteria. Subtropical storm Beryl is now moving westward and will affect portions of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia today through Monday Morning making landfall in Northeast Florida late tonight or early Monday. Beryl is now a 60 MPH Sub-Tropical Storm and is expected to make the transition to a tropical storm today. Beryl is still not anticipated to make hurricane strength but this will be monitored closely. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from the Volusia/Brevard county line Florida to Edisto Beach South Carolina. At this time, no VoIP Hurricane Net activation or activation of WX4NHC is expected but Beryl will be closely monitored throughout tonight and Monday in case the forecast changes. If ARES, SKYWARN and other EMCOMM groups in Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida have a need to use the *WX-TALK* Echolink conference node: 7203/IRLP 9219 system as Beryl makes landfall and affects their region, it is available for their usage.
