Tropical Depression (TD) 4 Forms in the Atlantic

Hello to all..

The area of disturbed weather north of the Dominican Republic has now been classified as Tropical Depression 4 with maximum sustained winds of 35 MPH. The government of the Bahamas has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the southeast and central Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. TD 4 is expected to move through the Bahama Island chain and is expected to intensify into a tropical storm within 12 to 24 hours. If TD 4 does this as expected, it will be named Cristobal. TD 4 could potentially reach hurricane strength in approximately 72 hours per the initial forecast guidance from the National Hurricane Center. The current track brings TD 4 parallel to the US East Coast but model tracks are highly divergent and it will likely take at least 24 hours for model solutions to coalesce on a specific track.

Advisories on TD 4 can be found off the main menu of the voipwx.net web site and on the voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds. This information can also be seen off the National Hurricane Center web site via the following link:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov

The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will be closely monitoring the progress of TD 4. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

Atlantic Tropical Update – Saturday 8/23/14 800 AM EDT/1200 UTC

Hello to all..

The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team continues to closely monitor an area of disturbed weather near the northern coast of the Dominican Republic and Hispaniola. It continues to become better organized and is expected to become a tropical depression or tropical storm later today or Sunday. The disturbance is expected to continue to move west-northwestward into the Southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands today and the Central Bahamas on Sunday with the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding/mudslides and strong winds. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are occurring in Hispaniola the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico this Saturday Morning. Interests in these areas should continue to closely monitor the progress of this system. This system has an 80% chance for development in the next 48 hours and a 90% chance for development over the next 5 days. The Tropical Weather Outlook can be seen off the main menu of the voipwx.net web site and our voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds. Atlantic Tropical Update – Friday August 22nd 2014 800 AM EDT/1200 UTC

Hello to all..

The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team is currently monitoring a small area of low pressure north of the US Virgin Islands. It is currently disorganized and its proximity to Hispaniola may inhibit development initially but as this system pulls away from Hispaniola and moves into Bahamas, conditions are favorable for this system to organize into a tropical depression or tropical storm. The US Virgin Islands, Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola should closely monitor the progress of this system and could see some gusty winds and heavy rainfall. An Air Force Reserve Unit Hurricane Hunter Aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon if necessary and the system has a 60% chance to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm within 48 hours and an 80% chance in the next 5 days. The Tropical Weather Outlook can be seen off the main menu of the voipwx.net web site and our voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds. It can also be seen via the National Hurricane Center web site via the following link:
