2007 NOAA Hurricane Outlook Calls for Above Average Season

Hello to all….

NOAA has issued its 2007 Hurricane Outlook and calls for a 75% chance of an above average season with 13-17 named storms and 7-10 Hurricanes with 3-5 of those hurricanes being major hurricanes. A press release and the full report from NOAA can be seen at the following links:

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/s2864.htm
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane2007/May/hurricane.shtml

NOAA will issue an updated Hurricane Outlook in early August. Dr. Gray from Colorado State University will issue an updated outlook on Thursday May 31st, 2007.

Now is the time to begin preparations in and near coastal areas for the 2007 Hurricane Season. We do not yet have the science and technology to accurately predict which areas will be affected worst if any land areas are affected at all. Therefore, preparations for this year’s season should be made from a personal perspective to save lives and property and for assisting with providing surface reports and supporting various disaster relief agencies, emergency management and the National Weather Service/National Hurricane Center across all Atlantic hurricane prone areas in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean in case a hurricane threatens your area.

Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

Remnants of Andrea Chances of Reorganization Diminished

Hello to all….

The first system of the season, Sub-Tropical Storm Andrea formed just offshore of the Southeast US coast earlier this week and then weakened with advisories on Andrea ending late Thursday Evening. After a period on Saturday, where the system showed signs of organization, the system is now moving into cooler waters and further development is not expected. Details on that system can be found at the following link:

http://kamala.cod.edu/TPC/latest.wont41.KNHC.html

The remnants of Andrea is expected to move out to sea and merge with a cold front as it passes by Bermuda ending any significant threat from the system. This will most likely be the last posting on the remnants of Andrea. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

System Being Monitored Off the Southeast US Coast

Hello to all….

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Special Tropical Disturbance statement for a system off the Southeast US Coast that may have the potential to develop into a Sub-tropical or tropical system. A recon aircraft could be sent into the system Wednesday Morning. See link below for the details in the Special Tropical Disturbance statement:

http://kamala.cod.edu/TPC/latest.wont41.KNHC.html

While the Atlantic Hurricane Season officially starts on June 1st, 2007, occasionally, systems do form prior to the start of the season. It is unclear whether this system will even develop at all and even more unclear whether it would develop into anything substantial but the VoIP Hurricane Net management team is monitoring the system and will post updates on the system when required.
