Tropical Storm Bertha Forms in the Atlantic

Hello to all..

The tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles intensified Thursday Evening and is now Tropical Storm Bertha with maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH. Tropical Storm Warnings are now in effect for Barbados, St Lucia, Dominica, Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culbera, the US and British Virgin Islands. Bertha is expected to maintain tropical storm strength through the next several days. It is currently not expected to become a hurricane but this will be monitored closely. The track brings Bertha into the Northeast Caribbean Sea and then into the Southeast Bahamas before potentially turning more northward and northeastward in 3-5 days.

Advisories on Tropical Storm Bertha can be seen off the Main Menu of the voipwx.net web site or via the voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds. They can also be seen on the National Hurricane Center web site via the following link:

Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook Update – Thursday 7/31/14 800 AM EDT Update

Hello to all..

The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team is closely monitoring an area of disturbed weather with a high chance, 70%, of development 650 miles east of the southern Windward Islands which is now producing organized shower and thunderstorm activity for the last several hours. If this persists a tropical depression or tropical storm could form and a hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system today. Interests in the Lesser Antilles are asked to closely monitor this system per the 800 AM EDT Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook.

The VoIP Hurricane Net Management team will closely monitor the progress of this system and provide updates as needed. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!

With the various net activations for Hurricane Arthur (this morning for the Canadian Maritimes and overnight Thursday Night for Eastern North Carolina), we will cancel this week’s VoIP Hurricane Prep Net. We will reconvene next Saturday July 12th at its regularly scheduled time. This will allow our net controls etc. a break after a busy time with net activation including this Saturday Morning. Activation will take place on the *WX_TALK* Echolink Conference Node: 7203/IRLP 9219 system for the duration of this event..
..WX4NHC-National Hurricane Center Amateur Radio Operations will also be active starting at 6 PM EDT/2200 UTC Thursday July 3rd, 2014..
..Both the VoIP Hurricane Net and WX4NHC are expected to remain active overnight Thursday into Friday Morning July 4th, 2014..

Tropical Storm Arthur intensified into Hurricane Arthur overnight. Hurricane Warnings are now in effect for portions of Eastern North Carolina, particularly the Outer Banks of North Carolina region. The VoIP Hurricane Net and the Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center, WX4NHC, will be activated starting at 6 PM EDT/2200 UTC Thursday July 3rd, 2014 looking for surface reports and information from the Eastern North Carolina area possibly extending into Northeast South Carolina. Activation will take place on the *WX_TALK* Echolink Conference Node: 7203/IRLP 9219 system for the duration of this event which is currently expected to be through around 6-8 AM Friday Moring July 4th, 2014. Any stations in these areas and any stations with relays into the affected areas of Hurricane Arthur are asked to join the net to provide surface reports.
