The VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday Evening 8/26/17 at 800 PM EDT is cancelled. Hurricane Harvey will prompt a net activation Friday Afternoon into at least Saturday Afternoon if not into Saturday Evening and possibly even into Sunday. Given the resources required to support the net activation and the potential use of the system, the VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday 8/26/17 is cancelled.

Harvey regenerated over the Bay of Campeche Thursday Morning and has been intensifying steadily overnight with maximum sustained winds of 60 MPH as of the 800 AM EDT Thursday 8/24/17 National Hurricane Center (NHC) advisory.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect from Port Mansfield to Matagorda Texas. A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Port Mansfield to San Luis Pass Texas. A Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from south of Port Mansfield Texas to the mouth of the Rio Grande. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect from south of Port Mansfield Texas to the mouth of the Rio Grande and north of San Luis Pass to High Island Texas. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from north of Matagorda to High Island Texas. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from south of the mouth of the Rio Grande to Boca de Catan Mexico.

Any Amateur Radio Operators in the affected area of Harvey or with relays into the affected area of Harvey are asked to provide surface and damage reports into the VoIP Hurricane Net. Any SKYWARN Nets active in the local area that can pass reports to the VoIP Hurricane Net for relay into WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio Station at the National Hurricane Center are welcome to send a net liaison or connect directly at their discretion. We appreciate any and all support from Amateur Operators in the affected area or Amateur Operators with relays into the affected area.

Tropical Storm Gert has intensified into Hurricane Gert, the second hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season, to the east of the US East Coast. Gert is still expected to track slowly northward and then accelerate Northeast between the US East Coast and Bermuda and is currently expected to be a threat only to shipping interests except for high surf and rip currents along the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US Coast. Hurricane Franklin made landfall as a category-1 hurricane near Lechuguillas Mexico at approximately 200 AM EDT/100 AM CDT/0600 UTC. The VoIP Hurricane Net was informally active from roughly 800 AM EDT Wednesday through 200 AM EDT Thursday Morning.

Reports from Davis Weather stations before being knocked offline of note included a 75 MPH/121 KPH wind gust at 107 AM EDT/1207 AM CDT with 2.80″ of rain in La Vigueta Mexico and a minimum central pressure of 990 MB and 3.40″ of rain near Martinez De La Torre Mexico. XE2WCG-Carlos also relayed weather data from the Port of Veracruz Naval Air Station during the evening hours. Franklin is now weakening rapidly over the mountains of Mexico. Franklin became a hurricane as the 5 PM EDT Wednesday 8/9/17 advisory and Hurricane Franklin is expected to make landfall as a hurricane on the Gulf Coast of Mexico around or north of Veracruz Mexico. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the coast of Mexico from Puerto de Veracruz to Cabo Rojo. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the coast of Mexico north of Cabo Rojo to Rio Panuco. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of Mexico south of Puerto de Veracruz to Puerto Dos Bocas and the coast of Mexico north of Cabo Rojo to Barra del Tordo. Potential Tropical Cyclone 7 has become Tropical Storm Franklin. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the coast of Mexico from Chetumal to Campeche Mexico. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect from Belize City Belize to the border of Mexico. A Tropical Storm Watch is now in effect for the Gulf Coast of Mexico from south of Campeche to Sabanucy. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has begun issuing advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone 7 which will be approaching the Yucatan Peninsula Monday Night into Tuesday. The National Hurricane Center can now issue advisories on tropical systems before they become classified as a Tropical Cyclone meaning as a Tropical Depression or a Tropical Storm. A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for the coast of Mexico from Chetumal to Campeche Mexico. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Belize City Belize to the border of Mexico. Interests around the Bay of Campeche should monitor the progress of this system. This potential tropical cyclone is expected to intensify into a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Emily has formed west of Tampa Bay Florida this morning. Emily has maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH and is moving towards the east at 8 MPH. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Anclote River to Bonita Beach Florida. The main threat from Emily is heavy rainfall and flooding but some strong winds and severe weather is also possible from Emily. Emily is not expected to reach hurricane strength.
