VoIP Hurricane Net Activation for Hermine Secured at 610 AM EDT/1010 UTC – Friday 9/2/16
Hello to all..
The VoIP Hurricane Net Activation secured at 610 AM EDT/1010 UTC – Friday 9/2/16 after the 5 AM EDT/0900 UTC advisory indicated Hermine had weakened to a tropical storm. Hermine is expected to remain a tropical storm through Saturday and then re-emerge off the North Carolina coast on Saturday. From there, the track and intensity guidance is uncertain with Hermine potentially reintensifying as a powerful post-tropical storm or possibly regain tropical characteristics and possibly regain hurricane status south of Southern New England and east of the Mid-Atlantic states. It may also remain nearly stationary in this area for several days. How close the system is to the coastline will determine the impacts to either the mid-atlantic and/or Southern New England. The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will continue to monitor the progress of Hermine over the next several days. As always, advisories on Hermine can be seen off the main menu of the VoIP Hurricane Net web site, via the voipwxnet Facebook and Twitter feeds and via the National Hurricane Center web site via the following link:
While Hermine has weakened to a tropical storm, Amateur Radio Operators and SKYWARN Spotters are reminded that tropical storms can produced widespread pockets of wind damage, heavy rainfall and significant river, stream and urban/street flooding and Hermine will have the threat of isolated tornadoes today through the first part of Saturday. Local/regional SKYWARN Activations are likely happening along the path of Hermine in the Southeast US region.
The VoIP Hurricane Net Management Team will continue to monitor the progress of Hermine. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!
