Tropical Storm Melissa Update – Friday Evening 10/24/25 – 530 PM EDT – VoIP Hurricane Net Activation for Melissa Likely As Early As Sunday but Uncertain

Hello to all…

Tropical Storm Melissa after holding its own against shear for several days is now intensifying in the Caribbean Sea and expected to rapidly intensify this weekend close to the coast of Jamaica. It will be moving slowly and will begin its approach to Jamaica Sunday into Monday but not make landfall in Jamaica until Tuesday based on the current track and speed of the system. Melissa is expected to become a major hurricane and could become a catastrophic high-end Category 4 to Category 5 hurricane making landfall in Jamaica. It will likely maintain major hurricane status over Cuba and then continue as a hurricane near the near Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. Melissa is likely to result in a multi-day activation of the VoIP Hurricane Net but the timing is uncertain. Activation could start as early as Sunday or as late as Monday. We will keep everyone posted.

Advisories on Melissa can be seen off the main menu of the voipwx.net web site, via our Facebook and X feeds and via the National Hurricane Center web site at the following link:

The VoIP Hurricane Net will continue to monitor Melissa, update activation plans this weekend and monitor any other developments in the Tropics. The VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday 10/25/25 at 8 PM EDT will currently take place as planned but the net for next weekend, 11/1/25 will likely be canceled. Thanks to all for their continued support of the VoIP Hurricane Net!
