Hurricane Gabrielle Update – Tropical Storm Humberto Forms in the Atlantic & Overall Atlantic Update – Wednesday 9/24/25 800 PM EDT Update

Hello to all…

The Atlantic Tropics have become more active this week. Here are the latest updates as of Wednesday 9/24/25 – 800 PM EDT Update:

Hurricane Gabrielle is a threat to the Azores Islands of Portugal with hurricane force conditions expected Thursday Night to Friday Morning and Hurricane Warnings are in effect for the Azores. We have had stations from time to time from that area on the net and we will likely do a “limited” net activation for Gabrielle and her impacts on the islands. Please contact the net management team if you have any contacts in the Azores that could assist with reporting storm conditions as Gabrielle passes through the islands.

Tropical Storm Humberto has formed in the Atlantic. Humberto is expected to intensify into a hurricane in the next few days while remaining in the open waters of the Atlantic. Thereafter, its unclear whether Humberto remains out at sea, impacts Bermuda or the US East Coast due to interaction with another tropical wave in the Eastern Caribbean Sea that is expected to emerge over the Bahamas.

Advisories on Gabrielle and Humberto can be seen on the voipwx.net web site under Atlantic Tropical Products, via the voipwxnet Facebook/X feeds or via the National Hurricane Center web site at the following link:

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

The area of disturbed weather as mentioned above in the Eastern Caribbean Sea (designated as AL94) has a medium chance 40% for development in the next 48 hours and a high chance, 80%, for development over 7 days. The system is expected to be classified and if it reaches tropical storm strength as expected, it would be named Imelda. This system could have a closer track to the US East Coast but it is very low confidence due to its likely interaction with Humberto and whether that interaction leads to the “Fujiwhara Effect” occurring or simply has the track influenced being near Humberto. Information on the “Fujiwhara Effect” can be seen at the following link:
