Tropical Depression (TD) 2 Becomes Tropical Storm Barry in the Bay of Campeche

Tropical Depression (TD) 2 has now become Tropical Storm Barry in the Bay of Campeche with Tropical Storm Warnings in affect for a portion of the Eastern Mexico coastline. This system is expected to intensify a bit more but still is not expected to become a hurricane so no VoIP Hurricane Net activation is anticipated. Tropical Depression (TD) 2 has formed in the Bay of Campeche. TD 2 is expected to intensify into a minimal tropical storm before making landfall somewhere on the Eastern Mexican coast. If TD 2 is named as expected, it would be named Barry. At this time, this system is not expected to become a hurricane so no VoIP Hurricane Net activation is anticipated. Tropical Storm Andrea Forms in the Atlantic – First Named System of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season – No Threat to Land

Tropical Storm Andrea has formed in the Atlantic. Andrea is the first named system of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Andrea will pose no threat to land and has only briefly acquired tropical characteristics so no net activation is expected. Andrea will degenerate to a remnant low in 12-36 hours. VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday 6/28/25 and Saturday 7/5/25 Canceled Will Resume on Saturday 7/12/25

Hello to all…

With Amateur Radio Field Day weekend on Saturday 6/28/25 and the Saturday 7/5/25 Net being the day after the US Independence Day holiday, the weekly VoIP Hurricane Prep Net for Saturday 6/28/25 and Saturday 7/5/25 will be canceled and the next weekly VoIP Hurricane Prep Net will resume on Saturday 7/12/25. If any landfalling hurricanes are expected during this timeframe including on both of these Saturday Evenings, the VoIP Hurricane Net will activate as needed to support WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Erick Southwest Mexico Post Impact Report from Thursday 6/19/25

While we did not formally activate the VoIP Hurricane Net for Hurricane Erick and impacts to a rural portion of Southwest Mexico, using our approach of monitoring social media, any online weather stations and other sources from the affected area, over 20 reports were submitted to WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center, and delivered to NHC Hurricane specialists. Start of 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season – VoIP Hurricane Prep Net Shifts to Weekly Saturday Nets & A Couple Prior Reminders

Sunday June 1st, 2025 marks the start of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season is expected to be an above normal season per the NOAA/National Hurricane Center and Colorado State University outlooks among others. To mark the start of Atlantic Hurricane Season, the National Hurricane Center/Tropical Prediction Center in Miami FL will issue advisories on named systems, Tropical Storm and Hurricane Watches and Warnings when a system threatens a land area, Tropical Cyclone Updates on named systems and Tropical Weather Outlooks for potential areas of tropical cyclone development. Their suite of products and tropical system names are listed in their first couple of tropical weather outlooks and the link from 8 AM EDT – Sunday June 1st, 2025 Tropical Weather Outlook is listed below:

The VoIP Hurricane Prep Net has shifted to weekly beginning with the Saturday June 7th, 2025 Net at 8 PM EDT/7 PM CDT/0000 UTC. We welcome all those who wish to participate in the net and we are looking for net controls both for the weekly net as well as net activations for landfalling hurricanes.
